Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions regarding donating to or volunteering for JUST-a-BREAK. However please feel free to contact us if you do not find the answer to your question(s).
Questions about JUST-a-BREAK...
Great question!
The JUST-a-BREAK packages will primarily be 100% donated from generous local businesses, but a few businesses that are giving us a “deep discount” will still require minimal funds to acquire the gift certificates- Examples: A) High End Hotel willing to give $400 rooms for $100.00 B) Limo Service willing to donate Car/Driver & Time and JaB would provide gas money) or C) Spa that asks for a” minimal tip”- after providing free services, etc.
JUST-a-BREAK is not a "give the patients a discount program"”. We desire cancer patients to enjoy 100% "cost free" and "worry free" breaks!
No,not really.
We acknowledge the amazing good that the Make a Wish foundation provides for a few carefully selected families. But at JUST-a-BREAK, our goal is that no one is left out! We desire that EVERY advance stage cancer patient and their caregiver/ family can take JUST-a-BREAK and truly forget about cancer for a few hours or days.
Overwhelming!
They have been overwhelmingly excited, and have "literally begged" us to keep going with this project!
They typically receive many donations of blankets, scarves, head wraps, etc., but not one has heard of anyone "gifting" certificates or "packages of certificates" allowing financially and emotionally strained patients to have JUST-a-BREAK - A complimentary night or weekend out to forget about their issues for while.
The JUST-a-BREAK program depends on the efforts of volunteers working behind the scenes.
JUST-a-BREAK volunteers personally visit local hotels, restaurants, movie theatres, spas, etc. and explain JUST-a-BREAK organiztion and program. They typically leave them with information regarding the project and follow up contact information.
Upon receiving "in kind" donations, we will record all gifts received, send a Thank you letter or Email to the donor, and then put together "break" packages according to geographic proximity to a local cancer centers or hospitals.
These JUST-a-BREAK packages of gift certificates would then be dropped off at the local hospital or cancer center chairman’s office where he or she together with the social work team, financial aid team, and nursing staff will determine needs and distribute the packages. All involved cancer centers up to this point have expressed a willingness to also keep track or record which individual or family has received a package in order to bless as many families as possible.
The JUST-a-BREAK website will continually be updated to promote the contributing local businesses.
